WATCH YOURSELF
If you've emptied the cup of yourself, only then can something else be put in it. You understand that principle, don’t you? The two can’t occupy the same space, the same cup, the same mind, the same life, but you are terribly afraid to do what reality wants you to do....
Please will you watch yourself the next time you get angry or doubtful or sarcastic toward truthful correction on any level at all, even the smallest thing. Someone tries to correct you in some little habit you have. Notice you've got to see the arising of mechanical resistance. You've got to see the enemy invader who talks for you, who fights for you, who argues for you, and then you've got to get spiritually suspicious that something is going on in you, the you never, ever recognized before, and then not only that but you don’t want to recognize. You don’t want to see that the enemy is within.
You don’t want to see that you get angry so fast, you've got the fast lightning-like thought, an emotional uprising and retort to someone who’s trying to teach you something higher above yourself. And you've got to recognize it and say to yourself, “Hey, wait a minute, all these years something foreign has been living my life for me and I never even suspected it. The enemy, to repeat, is within, and I didn’t see it....”
Oh, that’s the beginning of dawning, isn’t it?
STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF
How many talk to yourself?
You do it all the time. Let’s look at that a little bit. How many get dumb answers from yourself? You talk to yourself because you want to keep the phonograph record playing. You want to hear yourself over and over again.
I told you there is no security in familiarity.
