Welcome to our beautiful new website.

I’ll give you help because I know when you write me those notes or tell me your griefs, I know something about you that you don’t, and here it is.
I know that writing me that note about your griefs, about how life is nothing but one tremble after another, or when you talk to me, I know exactly what you are doing. You are saying, “Pay attention to me, pay attention to me, the wandering soul. Look at me, the sufferer, look at me, the man or the woman who just can’t make it. (Table pounded)
I can’t make it, please tell me how to make it.”
I’ll tell you how to make it. Stop trying to attract attention to yourself by screaming out, “I can’t make it. Please tell me what to do?” That is your pseudo glory. I told you, you have to stop being you and it’s always been you going around crying for help all the time. “Please give me some answers.”
The question is, I have just given you the answer: will you take it? Will you make a tremendous leap in consciousness, in understanding to see that right in the middle of your screams for help, for salvation, for immortality, right in the middle of your prayers please help me, you are doing the very thing that prevents help from coming to you.
Right in the moment that you call yourself repentant and a serious seeker, right in the middle of your tears, right in the middle of your sorrow over yourself — you don’t kid me one second, I don’t fall for that. I know what you're playing,
I know the game. I’ve seen it ten thousand, fifty thousand times. The game is, “Please Sir, believe in my grief. Look, tears by the gallon, believe in me.”
Because I'm your real friend, do you think I'm going to believe in you like that? See, you are playing a very foolish, dangerous and by the way utterly useless little game, little tricky game. I don’t believe in you at all that way. Why don’t you do the same?

Stop Your Doing

When you know who you are, you know what to do. So look, that means there is no need for you to ever get up in the morning and wonder what you’re going to do with yourself.
The object of your life should be to cast off all your assumptions, beliefs, that if I do this I will get that and feel better. No, it hasn’t happened, so realize it won’t happen as long as a delusion is chasing a delusion. As long as the false nature is chasing a false reward, nothing can happen, but going in the dreary dreadful circle, hoping that somehow something is going to come along.
There’s only one thing that can come along that’s going to help you — it’s for you to do something you haven’t dared to do before, which is to not worry over what you’re supposed to be doing with yourself. You see, you played an insidious trick on yourself, and all your friends and neighbors are doing the same. You want to worry, you want to set out on your own selected course for inner transformation. And worry becomes an enemy ally to you because worry in itself seems to indicate earnestness on my part. “I’m really worried I’m not going to make it, but I’m going to fight until I make it.”
All that is a sham! I dare you, I request you, truth wants you to not have any concern at all over succeeding in this world. You’re asked to not have any concern at all over where you’re going, because there is a new destination, the only satisfactory one you’re going to find, and as long as you insist on yours, you’re not going to find the real one.
So, try it again, see how well you can absorb this. When you get up in the morning, it doesn’t make any difference what your body does, go to work or trim the yard, whatever, that’s unimportant. You’re going to be doing certain necessary practical things as you go about your day. We’re talking about you doing something new and different and whole-heartedly with your inner nature.
Until an absolutely astonishing fact becomes clear to you. Few will realize this.
If you want to be one of the few, you can realize it, which is this: there really, truly, honestly is a spirit, a divine spirit; there truly, honestly is a Heavenly force. That force wants to be with you all the time, twenty-four hours of the day, living your life for you, but it can’t do it because you’re living your life. And let me interrupt myself by giving you a point that is quite necessary so far in the talk. Write this down and never ever forget it:
I CAN’T HAVE BOTH. Realize it, I can’t have both. That means that I can’t insist upon saying that I know what to do with my life. I can’t have that, and I can’t have the guidance from the higher life at the same time. I can’t have both, I’ve got to give up the lower in order to find the higher.
See, when you realize deep in your heart that you can’t have both, it forces you, thank Heaven, into a decision, which you must make, the right decision to make, to learn to sacrifice your former choices, former actions, former vanities, to sacrifice everything that you thought was wise and valuable and necessary, sacrifice on and on and on until there is nothing left of you, and don’t be afraid of that.
...There’s only one thing you’re supposed to do, which is to stop your doing, to not follow the path you have trod ten thousand times over the years.

Stop Being You

The Dictator

There was once a cruel dictator who ruthlessly persecuted everyone who thwarted his ambitions in the smallest way. Having no conscience, he delighted in making everyone as outwardly miserable as he was inwardly tormented.
Finally overthrown by enemies, he fled to another country, where he was forced to live in a small and old house. One day a former enemy was driving by in a car, when the wheels accidentally splashed mud against the house. The tyrant let out a howl of indignation heard a block away.
Remarked an observer, “There is no howl like a howl of a persecutor who feels persecuted.”
A man’s relationship with others, for peace or discord, will be the same as his relationship with himself.

How to End Suffering on Vanity

The commentary series below is focused on a particular negative emotion, painful feeling, negative trait or state of human beings that causes us tremendous pain and suffering. Perhaps you will recognize that you yourself have had personal experience with this condition. You’ll find the explanation of how it causes suffering and how it produces detrimental effects in your daily life. You will also be shown how Truth can help you to lessen these effects and how you can eventually eliminate them from your life altogether. A new negative characteristic of human nature will be gone into each month. It will be great fun to explore these things in order to help us see through them and to be rid of them.

VANITY by Kyle Rickert

I recently had an experience where I was given an unexpected free upgrade to fly First Class. This has never happened before. I instantly celebrated, WINNING! My mind thought that I just had a victory, and I said to myself, “All of my hard work in life is finally paying off and I got this reward.”
Interestingly enough, I was in the middle of writing this article about Vanity when this happened. The definition of vanity is “the excessive pride in or admiration of one’s own appearance or achievements.” New Life classes have taught me that from one minute to the next, that victory thought can become a defeat thought. And then you find yourself back on the roller-coaster of life. After passing through airport security, I looked up and saw a sign that said, “Picture yourself winning. Persistence. Pass It On. The Foundation for a Better Life.” This is a great example of the “positive encouragement” that the world offers. "YOU can do it!” Well, there is something that can help you do it, but YOU are not doing it. Being receptive to the supreme universal energy that’s available and trying to reach you is your ultimate tool.
“Vanity means that you think you can do it all by yourself.… See how you think you have a reputation to uphold. See how you’re your own worst enemy. See how you can’t do it by yourself. Vanity is preventing you from letting something higher come in and see that you don’t have to do it on your own.” (Vernon Howard)
