End Suffering on Inertia
by Moe Janosec
Nothing good comes without right work! This is obvious to us in many areas, but we seemingly forget it many times when it comes to inner spiritual work. So inertia must be seen as the roadblock it is to an honestly enjoyable life.
A few of the synonyms for “inertia” are laziness, inaction, inactivity, and sluggishness. Everyone has experienced this, and everyone knows what it means. You see something that needs to be done, but instead give in to a preference to not do it. Nobody likes to be called lazy, but that is what this is. It’s the easiest thing of all to just sit back, zone out, get lost in aimlessness, and forget what we should be doing to help ourselves. Which is always to make right efforts inwardly.
We’re not going to find much help “out there” with this. Society often encourages us not to make greater efforts. For instance in the business world, I’ve often encountered the mindset of attempting to make the absolute most money with the absolute least amount of effort. While seemingly possible in that realm, it is a particularly damaging attitude in inner work.
As we get physically older, we do have less physical energy. Which can easily become an excuse. However, by applying right principles we should be learning to not get drained as much, both from unnecessary activities and encounters with other people. This will leave us with more energy to go against inertia.
Plus, the more alert and conscious I can be inwardly with any right effort I make, the more energy I receive back. And this will build on itself. This is an amazing thing that must be experienced for oneself. This is where the real fun lies, when we see more and more that everything Vernon Howard told us is true – it’s possible to more and more join with a supreme force that wants nothing but the best for us.
It is rightly distasteful to see people wandering around or sitting with a dull stare, completely unaware of everything, including themselves. And getting into trouble because of it. Men and women were definitely meant to be something far above the level of slugs. If we energetically and sincerely want and work for something much higher, Truth will reply in kind. All the way up the mountain to a lofty spiritual level.
As I type this I can feel a right, higher urge to go against inertia, go against it, go against it! We were told we’re going to have to fight mightily for ourselves, in a right way. The principles Vernon left us have given us the opportunity to counter and conquer all negative states, including inertia.
